The Internet's favorite crush may end fairly soon.

Summary:

  • The genre of romantic comedies was at its peak around the 1990s and 2000s, however slowly lost its popularity.
  • Many believe that with the return of many things from 2000s fashion, romcoms deserve to have a comeback too.
  • The Bear ’s Jeremy Allen White seems like a perfect romcom lead to many, but doesn’t see himself acting in one.

If the Internet is any indication, romcoms are definitely back in style. With Sydney Sweeney and Glenn Powell's upcoming romantic comedy Anyone But You, audiences are expecting a renaissance of the genre, and they're ready to welcome any actor that catches their interest. No matter how typical or atypical they might be in such an environment.

Looking at Jeremy Allen White's filmography, for example, it is hard to imagine him taking on anything less stressful than his latest hit, The Bear. Though billed as a comedy, many viewers admit to struggling with the show's tension and constant anxiety. The actor, however, does a brilliant job of portraying all the pressures.

His other projects, from the painfully realistic Shameless to The Iron Claw, which premiered in Dallas, Texas on November 8, 2023, suggest the same level of intensity. But judging by his looks, Jeremy Allen White would be the perfect lead in a rom-com.

From the wavy hair to the softer facial features, he is just the type to play the true love that everyone wants to meet in the most unexpected setting. The only problem is, he doesn't want it for himself.

Why Jeremy Allen White Won’t Play In Romcoms

The actor was asked the question during GQ's Actually Me YouTube feature, in which celebrities answer questions from fans on various social media platforms. The romance question predictably came from X (formerly known as Twitter) in the form of a plea for Allen White to put himself forward for romance roles.

“I don’t know, guys. I don’t know. I don’t know if I can do it. I like a romcom, I like an older ‘80s, ‘90s romcom. I think if I were to do a romcom, it would also have to be very sad,” he answered.

Although it wasn't an outright refusal, it's clear that the actor doesn't seem too excited about getting a role like this. After all, one of the most important things an actor can bring to a scene is authenticity, so if he doesn't have that much passion for the genre in terms of working on it, then maybe it's for the best that he doesn't.

As an audience, we would be happy to see Jeremy Allen White in any kind of movie or TV show, as long as the cast and crew are fully invested in the production.

Fortunately, there's no shortage of content for the actor at the moment. The Bear has been renewed for Season 3, and the movie The Iron Claw, in which he stars opposite Zac Efron as Kerry Von Erich, is set for release in the U.S. on December 22, 2023. So keep an eye out for Jeremy Allen White's new projects!
