This must trigger some memories.

Summary:

  • Succession is one of HBO's newest hits, airing from 2018 to 2023.
  • It revolves around four siblings from the Roy family, who fight to take over their father's media company.
  • Jeremy Strong, who portrayed one of the sons, Kendall Roy, will now star in The Student as Roy Cohn.

Everyone in the entertainment industry knows what typecasting is, and most actors do their best to avoid it. However, not all of them are equally successful. While some are lucky enough to showcase every expression of their talent on the big and small screen, others end up stuck in one character for the rest of their careers.

What you haven't really heard of is typecasting based on a name. However, that seems to be the case for Jeremy Strong of Succession in the next few years.

Since he's being cast as yet another Roy in yet another production, let's dive right in and see if there are any more similarities to the beloved series.

Who Is Roy Cohn From The Student?

All jokes aside, Succession has very little in common with The Student, the new film from Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbasi. The movie promises to explore the story of a young protégé and his powerful mentor, which will explain and explore the origins of one of the most powerful family dynasties in the United States, both financially and politically.

Jeremy Strong will star opposite Sebastian Stan, who will portray none other than the young Donald Trump. Maria Bakalova will also appear as Ivana Trump. The rest of the cast is not disclosed as of now.

Roy Cohn, portrayed by Jeremy Strong in the film, was an American lawyer and prosecutor who rose to political power in the 1950s by assisting Senator Joseph McCarthy in his investigations of suspected communists.

However, the events of the movie take place a few decades later, in New York in the 70s and 80s, when Donald Trump was building his real estate business. In light of the scandals surrounding the personalities and private lives of both Cohn and Trump, audiences can expect the film to be as full of intrigue and drama as Succession was.

But that, we’re afraid, will be the only similarity you will find between the two Roys.

So far, not much is known about The Student's production, cast, and director. However, if you are interested in seeing when this promising project comes to life, keep an eye out for more news and updates.
