Here comes the actor’s best comedy performance of his entire career.

Summary:

  • Back in 1997, Jim Carrey ’s comedy talent shined the most in this gem, coming to Netflix tomorrow.
  • It follows a pathological liar, who is forced to tell only the truth while trying to reconcile with his family.

Suddenly emerging in the mid-1990’s as the main comedy icon, Jim Carrey proved to the whole world he is the genre’s genius. His Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber definitely made a revolution back in 1994, bringing new comedy standards to the cinema industry.

Before delving into dramas, the actor starred in the 1997 comedy, where he delivered, presumably, his best performance at the time. Moreover, he solidified his status as an actor, entertaining the whole family on a different level, with the kids laughing at his expressive mimics, while the adults admired his ability to embody the craziest ones.

The movie’s plot revolves around the divorced lawyer Fletcher Reede, who built his entire career on lying, which also becomes the reason why his marriage failed and, more than that, why his young son Max gets more and more disappointed with him.

However, one day Fletcher finds himself cursed to speak only the truth, which becomes the obstacle for both maintaining his career and reconciling with his family, whom he pathologically gave the empty promises and hopes for a brighter future.

Such a premise offers a great number of hilarious gags, related to Carrey’s character’s inability to lie and demonstrating how ridiculously dishonest he was before the curse. It’s surprising that despite all these sins Fletcher appears to be quite sympathetic, as we start to follow his ardent attempts to win Max’s love and respect back.

This and the great amount of the movie’s overall charm is clearly an achievement of the leading actor’s performance. Carrey here perfectly balances between performing high-class comedy and depicting his character’s personal drama, and such a task is rarely done so successfully and seemingly effortlessly by the modern actors.

“It is a feature length movie of him being funny the ENTIRE time. Even when he’s in the background of a shot, he’s still funny,” states Redditor @MovieBuff90 about the actor’s brilliant performance.

The actor’s fans have already guessed we’re talking about Liar, Liar, the comedy which now seems timeless due to essential issues it raises and to its perfectly-written humor.

Luckily for us, Liar, Liar finally lands on Netflix on May 1, so get ready to check out Carrey’s outstanding performance in it.
