It could’ve been a match made in heaven — and even Parsons agrees.

Summary:

  • Jim Parsons has been portraying his famous character Sheldon Cooper for years before The Big Bang Theory ended its run in 2019, and is now one of the executive producers for the spin-off show Young Sheldon.
  • Parsons has recently discussed the chances of one particular character to play older Sheldon in another spin-off series.
  • The actor’s response was a quite clear confirmation of the creators’ future plans regarding The Big Bang Theory’s character and his story.

The Big Bang Theory ended its run back in 2019 after more than 10 years of being aired, but the story isn’t going anywhere — at least till this May.

Though the original show was over for several years, its place was taken by a prequel Young Sheldon showing childhood years of the famous geek portrayed by Jim Parsons in The Big Bang Theory and Iain Armitage in the prequel.

As Young Sheldon’s story is also coming to its end with the final episode set to be released on May 16, fans are wondering whether Sheldon’s later years would also be interesting to follow — but Jim Parsons doesn’t appear to think so.

While talking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show recently, the actor shared his thoughts about an actor who could potentially portray older Sheldon in a not existing yet prequel. The theme was brought up when Fallon presented to the audience the childhood pictures of Michael Keaton and Iain Armitage highlighting their striking resemblance.

Parsons then agreed that the actors indeed look alike, but also noted that Michael Keaton “really looks like Michael Keaton still”.

When Fallon suggested that it be a tempting idea to create one more spin-off with Michael Keaton playing older Sheldon, Parsons was quick to clarify that it was very unlikely to happen, but he would be amazed if something like this ever happened.

The actor debunking the seemingly exciting idea made fans wonder whether Parsons is already aware of The Big Bang Theory’s creators’ plans to put the story to its entire end. And, frankly speaking, it wouldn’t be that surprising given that Parsons, even though he’s been done with The Big Bang Theory for years, is one of the Young Sheldon’s executive producers.

Though he’s not a part of the show anymore as an actor, Parsons is still very much present on its set and thus knows exactly what he’s speaking about when it comes to suggestions like one more spin-off series.

Be that as it may, Jim Parsons’ quick response makes it clear that we won’t be getting another show with Sheldon at least in the upcoming years. Maybe it’s time to rewatch The Big Bang Theory for a hundredth time.
