Joe Locke Gives Intriguing Update on 'Heartstopper' Movie: "It Is Grown Up More"
The Charlie Spring actor gives first details on the upcoming Heartstopper movie, which will also serve as the finale for Charlie and Nick’s love story that started as a hit Netflix show.
The Heartstopper movie is currently being filmed, with Joe Locke and Kit Konnot returning not only as main stars but also as executive producers. Not much plot details are known as of now, but Locke did spill some tea on what fans should expect from the grand finale.
"It is grown up more. But it's still Heartstopper. I think we're trying to really make it [as] cinematic as possible and really finish the story in a really nice way,” Locke told BuzzFeed Celeb.
According to Heartstopper series creator Alice Oseman, the movie will largely be based on her upcoming sixth and final graphic novel.
“Among many things, it explores Charlie finding a new sense of confidence and independence, and healing from some of his old demons. Meanwhile, Nick has a bit of a crisis about his future, influenced by memories of his past,” Oseman told Tudum when speaking about the book.
Besides, the author said that anyone who can’t wait for the book and the movie to come out can go and check out the comics to see what will happen. But even if you do, be prepared for some surprises!
“Of course, there will be some tweaks for the movie, as there always are in adaptations … But I’ll leave those a surprise for now,” the author said.

The Heartstopper movie doesn’t have a scheduled release date yet.
