Such a plot twist would make a perfect series finale, fans think.

With season 13 of the beloved police procedural revolving around the "blue-blooded" Reagan family currently coming out on CBS, its fans get enough inspiration and time in between the episodes to create sometimes crazy, sometimes plausible fan theories. As shocking as it sounds, one of these theories might actually reshuffle the way you think about Blue Bloods.

The theory surely relates to one of the Reagan family members but not anyone who has ever appeared in the series. Here is the idea Redditor u/Ambitious_Minimum_37 pitched on r/bluebloods Subreddit:

"Could Joe Reagan still be alive and in witness protection?"

What a surprising plot twist! Joe Reagan was Frank's second (or first according to recent episodes) son. He was killed in the line of duty 15 months prior to the events of season 1. Working undercover with the FBI, Joe investigated an organization of corrupt police officers, the Blue Templar. When the organization members found out about his involvement, they killed him, which has become the biggest tragedy for the Reagan family.

Sorry, Blue Bloods Fans, Looks Like Daez Won't Happen After All

Even 13 seasons into the series, each one of the Reagans continues to grapple with the loss of Joe. Though never seen on screen, he is often mentioned in family discussions.

Danny and Baez: Will They or Won't They? Blue Bloods Fans Hold Their Breath

The way Joe died certainly plays in favor of the fan theory. It is common to organize witness protection for FBI agents who had been uncovered and were in danger. Besides, Joe's sudden resurrection would definitely shake things up for the procedural, just like when his son no one knew about was unexpectedly introduced in the show.

Some fans thought the plot twist was so shocking that it deserved to actually serve as a series finale moment.

However, other commenters didn't agree. According to them, the twist would not only remove much weight from so many episodes, but it is also not believable enough.

"He'd have re-emerged way back when the Blue Templars had been taken down since they were the reason why he was in imminent mortal danger in the first place," one of the fans explained.

Will Blue Bloods dare to up the stakes as much as resurrect the canonically dead character? Maybe season 14 set for release on June 30, 2023, will show.
