When a beloved series gets a spinoff, the first thing fans demand is a cameo from the original cast. In the case of The Office, John Krasinski provided a definitive answer.

Hollywood’s sweetheart, John Krasinski, first famous for his breakthrough role of Jim Halpert in the iconic mockumentary The Office, made clear to the fans what he thinks of joining the sitcom’s spinoff. The Paper is in development now, but Krasinski says he will be pleased to join the cast and make a cameo if the creators ask him.

In a recent chat with Extra, while attending the premiere of his new movie Fountain of Youth where he stars alongside Natalie Portman, Krasinski revealed that he's down for a cameo.

John confidently said “Done! If they ask me, I’m in.”

It comes as no surprise though as even some time ago Krasinski said to Entertainment Tonight that he’d do anything for Greg Daniels. Although at the time being he still wasn’t asked to join the cast.

During the same conversation with Extra, John also reacted to the fact of casting his Fountain of Youth co-star Domhnall Gleeson, saying he would be perfect for the show.

“I'm excited to see what they do with it. It's such an amazing idea, and listen if Greg [Daniels] is behind it, we're all in. And you can't get a better actor than [Domhnall] to take on the mantle. He's so, so great.”

The Paper is the working title for the spinoff of The Office, which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013 on NBC. In The Paper, the same fictional film crew that chose Dunder Mifflin as the subject of its documentary on The Office heads to Toledo, Ohio, to film a Midwestern newspaper called “The Truth Teller”.

And while it’s unknown whether Krasinski will reprise his role as Jim, NBC announced that Oscar Nuñez, who played accountant Oscar Martinez on The Office, is definitely coming back for the new series.

When Will ‘The Paper’ Premiere?

Though NBCUniversal has not chosen a specific release date, the company revealed that the spinoff will premiere on Peacock in September 2025.
