With the prequel's cavalier attitude toward Supernatural canon, nothing can be ruled out.

With The Winchesters a few episodes away from its finale, fans believe that a curse from Supernatural may soon fall on John Winchester, even though it's not technically canon.

According to fans, John may bear the Mark of Cain — an F-shaped scar that Cain passed on to Dean in Supernatural (and which ultimately led to him becoming a demon). Though the canon says that the mark, created by God to seal Amara, was given by Him to Lucifer; then, after it corrupted Lucifer and was given to Cain, he gave it only to Dean and no one else.

But is The Winchesters notorious for being overly canon-conscious? It has already fundamentally changed the story of John and Mary, leading fans to believe that the timeline in which the events of the show take place is being interfered with. That's why some believe John may end up with the Mark of Cain on his arm.

"I'm saying that they showed the scar on John's arm that he got after his buddy stepped on a land mine in [Vietnam], and it is [...] 90 percent Mark of Cain," Redditor Melkath said. "And that scar is on the body of the only existing person capable of serving as meatsuit for an archangel. Explanation for the [apparent] health of Gabe's meatsuit aside."

If time travel is involved in The Winchesters (and so far all signs point to Dean actually interfering with time), then it is possible that John somehow received the Mark of Cain, especially considering that angels can travel through time.

So far, it's unclear how John would receive the Mark (if he does), and why in the first place. According to fans, it may be done to tie the events of The Winchesters to God, Lucifer, and Amara, which will essentially finalize the prequel's status as Jensen Ackles ' own alternate Supernatural finale.

The new episode of The Winchesters will air on February 21 on The CW.
