Rumors, speculations, and gossip have got to be the most annoying side effects of being famous — and Hollywood actors know that better than anyone else. Not a day goes by without the most random “breaking news” spilling new fake facts about A-listers’ personal lives, and it’s frustrating for everyone involved…except the gossipers themselves.
Recently, rather wild speculation arose online after some semi-anonymous account claimed to have seen Johnny Depp, a 60-year-old Hollywood legend, and Jenna Ortega, a 20-year-old rising star, together on a date. Such rumors come with the level of celebrity both the actors boast, but this one came seemingly out of nowhere.
Without any evidence to back it up, the claim, however, quickly started making rounds online, and both Ortega and Depp had to intervene and address it soon. Jenna was the first one to react, and she did it on her own social media.
“This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone,” the Wednesday star wrote on her Instagram.
The official statement from Johnny Depp’s representative followed soon after, and it, too, denied the rumors completely. Admittedly, the speculations upset the actor quite a lot since most of the time, he doesn’t bother addressing such rumors.
“Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever. He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career,” the official statement read.
Apart from clearly shutting down the speculation about their dating, Depp’s representative also seemingly denied a different rumor: many fans recently believed that the actor was working with Jenna Ortega on Beetlejuice 2. Apparently, that is not the case — and the same goes for the claim that the two are seeing each other.
