Variety has announced the list of 10 Actors to Watch for 2022, an annual selection that dates back to 1998, And one name jumps out for everyone who has been following any TV lately — that of Joseph Quinn.

Little have we heard about the British actor Joseph Quinn, 29, before he joined Season 4 of Stranger Things as a Dungeons and Dragons-loving metalhead Eddie Munson. Even less could we imagine that the bad boy obsessed with heavy metal would become a fan favorite. And he didn't even have the full season to win over fan hearts.

But now Joseph Quinn is trending. He has just recently become the first global ambassador for its Gris Dior fragrance. In the brand statement, Quinn is labeled as "a mesmerizing and mysterious actor," "the perfect embodiment of the streamlined chypre accord of this leading composition". There is some fan movement to cast him as a Human Torch in the upcoming MCU Fantastic Four movie. And the whole Reddit thread on finding him in the Harry Potter while the actor never claimed to be in the movies in the first place.

But he is British, and he has studied drama and he is a good enough actor to nail the American accent and hard-working enough to lose weight for the role or listen only to black metal for a few months of filming, the experience, as he laughingly admits in the Vanity Fair interview, he is not ready to relive "anytime soon".

And though for the American viewer Quinn is a newcomer, he doesn't feel like one after 10 years of career in British theatre and TV having stared on stage next to Olivia Coleman and opposite Helen Mirren in the HBO-series Catherine The Great. The new experience of being a potential mega-star comes to him as "quite overwhelming." And quite inevitable as he has just recently signed with CAA, the most influential American talent agency.

"All you want as an actor is to have choice and as much agency over your career as possible," he says to Variety. "Even then, so much of it is out of your hands. Whatever comes my way, I'll see what happens. I think working on something from the infancy of an idea would be a really exciting prospect."

Quinn will next appear in Luna Carmoon's debut feature Hoard, which is currently in post-production. But more exciting projects are surely yet to come.
