The actress has starred in many other prominent projects where her characters’ fate isn’t that bad.

In 1923’s season 2, Taylor Sheridan once again reassured his fans about his shows’ female characters being the most problematic part of the director’s highly praised writing.

Julia Schlaepfer’s character Alexandra, who later becomes Jack Dutton’s wife, proves the point like no one else, eventually facing a disheartening ending that many slammed Sheridan for.

However, even with the actress not coming back to the story in future spinoffs, she can still be seen in many other popular movies and series you could have missed out on all this time. Here are 5 of them that are worth checking out.

Madam Secretary (2014 — 2019)

Even though Schlaepfer appears in only one episode titled Good Bones, the actress delivers a memorable performance even some of 1923’s fans can still remember her by.

A political thriller with diplomatic tensions constantly on the rise, Madam Secretary saw Schlaepfer taking on the role of a movie star Ashley Whittaker who, ironically, turns out to be a pretty big figure in the whole entangled web of political conspiracies.

American Horror Stories (2021 — )

Coming as a spinoff series of Ryan Murphy’s hit horror anthology American Horror Story, the show stars Schlaepfer in its second season’s first episode, featuring an eerie story with a haunted dollhouse.

It’s the first time the actress tries her acting skills in the horror genre, though it’s not even that obvious, considering how well Schlaepfer’s performance fits into the episode.

American Horror Stories’ fans were surely clinging on to their sofa or chair while watching the episode, so it might be right to give the full credit to Julia Schlaepfer after all.

The Sky Is Everywhere (2022)

The second title in the actress’ movie credits list, The Sky Is Everywhere is A24’s coming-of-age romantic drama that required some solid dramatic performance from its leading cast.

In the movie, Schlaepfer portrays Rachel, a friend of the lead character Lennie Walker who seeks help from her close ones while trying to overcome her older sister’s loss.

Despite owning a supporting role, Schlaepfer shines in here too, giving her character the emotional depth needed to explore the entire film’s themes of grief, healing and finding yourself after a major emotional upheaval.

Charlie Says (2018)

Mary Harron’s biographical drama gives another perspective of a pretty disturbing matter, starring Julia Schlaepfer as Sandra Good, one of the female members of Charles Manson’s cult band.

Charlie Says is an unsettling movie with a real-life-based storyline that might be a hard pill for many to swallow, but Schlaepfer once again proves her versatility as an actress, brilliantly handling a challenging role.

The film came as the first one in Schlaepfer’s career, but, hopefully, will be a reason big enough for other filmmakers to offer her something not less outstanding.

The Politician (2019 — 2020)

Netflix ’s comedy drama gives Schlaepfer a central place, starring her as one of the leads Alice Charles, the girlfriend and later on fiancée of political activist Payton Hobart.

The actress’ role was pretty diverse, since the show follows Alice through a challenging time, balancing in between her desire to help Payton build a successful career and her own ambitions in the field.

Directed by Ryan Murphy who later invited Schlaepfer to American Horror Stories, The Politician was the actress’ true breakthrough on TV, so no wonder 1923 followed shortly after.
