The director is being slammed for many reasons just days before the finale of his extremely successful show.

It might be fair to say things have been going quite well for Taylor Sheridan in the past couple of years.

Having wrapped his biggest hit Yellowstone back in 2024, the writer-director quickly moved on to developing a handful of other series, eventually releasing the first season of Landman and the second season of 1923.

The latter, in particular, has been a pretty big deal for Paramount+ and recently became the most watched show in the streamer’s history. However, with the finale arriving on April 6, Sheridan’s prequel series suddenly faced some serious allegations, with the director himself receiving another wave of backlash for different matters.

Taylor Sheridan’s Shows Aren’t the Same After Kevin Costner ’s Departure From Yellowstone, Fans Say

Whatever project Sheridan has ever put his hand to eventually found raving success among the audiences and did well with critics as well, but many are convinced there was a pretty specific moment when Sheridan’s TV career went off the rails.

The latter’s hit neo-Western series Yellowstone was at its prime as long as Western vet and Oscar winner Kevin Costner was the very heart of the show; however, things changed radically when the actor quit the series.

“His storytelling disappeared when Costner left”, Redittor bookjunkie315 stated, replying in a thread questioning the quality of Sheridan’s shows that came right after Yellowstone, including 1923 and its most recent second season.

Taylor Sheridan Wasn’t Even There For 1923 — Literally

Another major reason for fans to reconsider their decision to follow the updates on Sheridan’s shows is a recent shocking revelation about the writer-director’s failed multitasking.

It is no secret that Sheridan has been handling several extremely successful series at once in recent years; though, as it turns out, it wasn’t as hard as it seemed to be since the director had been constantly absent on the set of 1923’s season 1 and, most likely, season 2 as well.

Despite being on board as the creator and director, Sheridan, reportedly, had given all the control over 1923 and 1883 into the hands of Ben Richardson, according to what 1923’s actor Jerome Patrick Flynn had to say.

“Taylor’s so busy working on the plethora of other stuff that’s coming through him. No, we never saw him on set”, Flynn revealed in an interview with Radio Times back in March.

While 1923’s season 2 is about to come to its conclusion this weekend, fans of Sheridan’s series are now becoming more concerned about the director’s ability to prioritise quality rather than quantity, and fear the fate of Yellowstone’s prequels might soon chase his other big hits like ongoing Western-y series Landman.
