'KPop Demon Hunters' Was Just Dethroned by 24%-Rated Charlize Theron's Action Disaster

KPop Demon Hunters, which received a near-perfect 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, didn't hold the top spot on Netflix's most-watched films for long – The Old Guard 2 took its place.

The Old Guard was a hit in 2020, and a sequel was immediately greenlit. It was filmed in 2022 but, due to various changes in Netflix's structure and strikes, was only released recently.

Ultimately, The Old Guard 2 was unnecessary – the sequel lost charm of the original and failed to offer anything new.

What Is 'The Old Guard 2' About?

Six months have passed since the events of the first movie. Although Andy has lost her ability to regenerate, she and her team continue to engage in dangerous missions, now accompanied by former CIA agent Copley. Soon, however, Andy will have to face her past.

An immortal named Discord finds an iron maiden in the ocean. It contains Quỳnh, an old friend of Andy's, whom she had been searching for for centuries. Quỳnh is angry and wants revenge, believing that Andy abandoned her and forced her to die underwater over and over again.

'The Old Guard 2' Has Been a Failure From the Very Start

The Old Guard 2 never stood a chance of being successful or remotely good. It's a belated sequel to the movie that wasn't good enough to warrant a continuation.

It's an action movie with weak action scenes, a bleak fantasy, and worst of all, it ends in mid-sentence as a prologue to a film that will most likely never happen. Netflix has not yet confirmed the third movie.

Charlize Theron, who played the main role, deserves so much more, with her dedication, acting skills, and charisma.

What Did Critics & Viewers Think of 'The Old Guard 2'?

The Guardian critic Benjamin Lee gave The Old Guard 2 two out of five stars, saying:

“It's not as if some b-plot threads are left dangling but instead, the entire film is left shoddily unfinished, a truly heinous decision that threatens to turn the series into the new Divergent.”
