Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones returns in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 — now a mother, and her powers "drop out"
The crankiest private investigator in Hell's Kitchen is back after seven years, she has a kid now, and her superstrength cuts out at random like hotel wi-fi. Motherhood has never been portrayed more accurately on television.
Quick orientation for anyone who fell behind: Daredevil: Born Again season 2 hit Disney+ on March 24, 2026, with weekly episodes, and Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones — last seen when her own show ended in 2019 — finally strolls back into frame in episode 6, "Requiem," fighting off the Anti-Vigilante Task Force to protect her small daughter.
Yes, daughter. Her name is Danielle, and if you've read the comics you already know exactly what surname a Danielle in Jessica's life traditionally carries. The show is being coy: Luke Cage is conveniently "away on a mission" for a shady operator played by Matthew Lillard, which is the Marvel equivalent of "he's at the store."
The twist Ritter gets to play is the fun one: since giving birth, Jessica's powers drop out sometimes — mid-fight, mid-warehouse-demolition, whenever it's least convenient for her and most delicious for the writers. She spends the back half of the season working with Matt Murdock against Mayor Wilson Fisk anyway, unreliable fists and all.
Ritter, who sat on this secret for an ungodly stretch of Marvel omertà, told EW it goes back years: "I kept the secret for a long time. I was asked about it constantly, and I just had to come up with new excuses."
"When you give her a child, there's a fierceness, a mama bear that comes out and gives her real strength and power. To be bigger and badder than ever as a result of having a child is really exciting."
And the glitching powers aren't a nerf, they're the whole point:
"Having the metaphor of her powers going in and out, like, 'Who am I? Where is this going?' is a really interesting character journey."
Add in Ritter's chemistry with Charlie Cox — "we're very close in real life, and we just adore each other" — and the fact that she conspicuously declined to comment on season 3 set photos, and you can do that math yourself. Jessica Jones spent seven years in limbo; she walked out of it with a child, a mortgage's worth of trauma and top billing in the discourse. She'd hate how happy we are about it.
