The story is coming to an end after all.
There are very few shows that you watch with your eyes wide open, whispering "omg" every time something happens on screen. And The Handmaid's Tale is definitely one of them. When the show first arrived on Hulu in 2017, it caused quite a stir in society with its shocking storyline and absolutely unexpected plot twists.
The series follows Elisabeth Moss as the title character, June Osborne, on her journey to freedom after being essentially a sex slave under the guise of a child-bearing handmaid in a fictional totalitarian society called Gilead.
For 5 seasons, we watched June fight for her life, but we also shared many moments with the rest of the characters, like Serena Joy played masterfully by Yvonne Strahovski, or Luke Bankole played by O-T Fagbenle. And surprisingly, the two of them became the reason why the fans of the show can be happy now.
In a recent Instagram post featuring several funny and heartwarming pictures of the cast behind-the-scenes, he wrote that filming on the final season has officially wrapped and the new season is coming soon. This has fueled excitement about how the series will end and what new challenges await June and the others. Check out the post!
Earlier in February, it was Strahovski who created another "this is the end" post. In the post's description, she said goodbye to Serena Joy, and mentioned that it was a real pleasure to have played the character.
When Will The Handmaid's Tale Premiere?
With filming now complete, fans are eagerly speculating about when the final season will air. While no official premiere date has been set, the wrapping of production suggests that we may see the season debut soon — possibly in late 2025.
Season 6 is expected to bring closure to the ongoing story and set up the world of its sequel, The Testaments. It's known that Hulu is currently developing the series, which takes place years after The Handmaid's Tale and follows the characters from the original series.
