This recipe will make you feel like you’ve just finished the stroll across the Tuileries garden before getting the most authentic French breakfast.

Who hasn’t been charmed by the French culture and hasn’t dreamed of that romantic getaway to Paris full of sightseeing and trying the most delicious food? It’s true that the country’s cuisine has also inspired many to dive deeper into the aspects of French history and culture, with the French toast having a major role in this.

The sweet breakfast version remains one of the most popular dishes across the European country, though people from different parts of the world mastered the recipe quite some time ago. If you feel like you need a taste of Parisian leisurely morning, the recipe for the French toast might come just as handy.

Ingredients: 4 eggs, 180 ml of milk (¾ cup), 2 tablespoons of sugar, ½ teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of vanilla, a pinch of salt, bread (brioche or challah is the best you can get, but slightly stale loaf bread will also work), butter for frying.

Beat the eggs with milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt until smooth and creamy. Cut the bread into thick slices, dip them into the mixture for 2–5 seconds on each side (for a more delicate version, leave them in longer).

Melt 1–2 tablespoons of butter in a frying pan, add the bread and fry for about 2 minutes on each side until golden brown (if the butter burns quickly, add a little vegetable oil). Put the finished slices on a rack in an oven preheated to 90–100 °C to keep the whole portion warm.

You can decorate the French toast with fresh berries, whipped cream, or maple syrup.
