Lioness fans took three seasons to place Bobby: six years of Wipeout fooled them, and Jill Wagner says that was the job

Bobby has been kicking down doors on Taylor Sheridan's Lioness since 2023. It still took a viral post this week for viewers to realize where they knew the face from — and Jill Wagner's answer to the discovery is the best part of the whole discourse.

The discourse started with a handful of social posts and got loud enough that outlets picked it up on Tuesday: viewers of Taylor Sheridan's Lioness — deep into season 3, with the finale set for September 20 — suddenly worked out that Bobby, the CIA team's flint-eyed operative, used to stand at the bottom of the Big Balls on ABC's Wipeout, interviewing soaked contestants. "My mind is blownnnn!!!" is a representative reaction.

The best part is that Jill Wagner answered. In an Instagram video posted as the posts spread, she ran through the whole shelf — the huntress from Teen Wolf, the Christmas-movie leads, the game show — and declined to treat the confusion as an insult:

"It is our job as an actor to fool you... I actually kind of prefer it like that."

The resume that fooled everyone

The Wipeout line is not even the strangest entry. In order:

  • 2003 — cast member on MTV's Punk'd, running hidden-camera setups.
  • 2006 — co-lead of Spike's Blade: The Series as Krista Starr, while also spending five years as the spokesmodel for the Mercury Milan.
  • 2008–2014Wipeout's on-field host for six seasons across two stints, a job she summed up as "I challenge anyone to come down and do my job and keep a straight face."
  • 2011–2017 — Kate Argent in Teen Wolf, 20 episodes of playing one of the franchise's nastiest villains.
  • 2015 onward — a full parallel career in Hallmark and holiday movies, the exact tonal opposite of everything above.

The internet's plot twist of the week is that the obstacle-course host and the special-ops operative are the same person. They have shared a résumé for over a decade — nobody was looking.

Three seasons in plain sight

What makes the discovery funnier is the timeline: Wagner has played Bobby since the show's first season in 2023. This is not a new cast member getting the usual "where do I know her from" treatment — she has been on screen next to Zoe Saldaña for three seasons before the internet ran the face match.

The military bearing, for what it's worth, is not a costume. Wagner was raised in North Carolina by her father, a US Marine, and has spent the Lioness press cycle crediting that upbringing for how Bobby carries herself. Between takes she lives about as far from Wipeout as possible: a farm in Tennessee, two kids, and — per this week's evidence — an audience that only now connected the dots.

Season 3 of Lioness is streaming on Paramount+, with the finale on September 20. Bobby will presumably keep a straight face. Her old job proved she can.
