A crucial moment in “The Last of Us Part II”, Abby’s point of view will become the centre of the HBO series’ attention, though some are convinced the show has already failed to do so properly — here’s why.

Things have been pretty messy for The Last of Us, with the second season receiving waves of backlash despite some raving reviews from critics.

HBO’s adaptation of the game of the same name has been a debatable matter for the game’s fans in particular, and now it seems like only those who enjoyed the show only are left to wait for The Last of Us’ third season.

Even though the next instalment was already confirmed to make a major and long-awaited shift in its narrative, many game fans might be abandoning the series because of one serious issue.

‘The Last of Us’ Fans Slam HBO Series for Long Wait for Season 3

Despite a break of 2-3 years becoming a new norm for the majority of modern TV shows, what’s especially annoying in The Last of Us’ case is that the show seems to be deliberately reducing the number of its episodes in each season, leaving its fans with a much shorter instalment ahead of yet another big break.

“I don't understand why they didn't just film season 2 and 3 at the same time or atleast make season 10 episodes and have parts of 5. Honestly, a lot of people agree with me on this 2027 to see another 7 or 8 episodes is a joke. The only upside is that maybe they renew it for season 4 now so at least we get 3 and 4 together. But even then if season 3 gets more episodes than season 2 that's a cop out as well because they are sidelining Ellie's story in her own show”, Redditor TheGhosthunter627 complained in a show-related thread.

“Season 2 killed some hype on its own. Show only lovers are gonna come back to season 3 and see it’s the Abby show and be flabbergasted”, matchbox176 added.

Many are ready to drop the season way before its premiere.

“Having the audience wait three years for the Abby show, when they haven’t given the audience a compelling reason to WANT a season of Abby yet is a bizarre production decision. I can’t wait to see how it goes”, lordbrooklyn56 commented.

‘The Last of Us’ S3 Will Also Bring More Answers about the WLF, the Seraphites & Potentially Joel’s Past

Even though the show’s co-creator Craig Mazin suggested that the team’s plans for the next season might change and “two weeks from now we may have a different idea of how it should go”, he did confirm that the ongoing war between the WLF and the Seraphites would still be one of the priorities.

“Those questions are correct and will be answered. How did that war start? Why? How did the Seraphites start? Who is [their] prophet? What happened to her? What does Isaac want? What’s happening at the end of Episode 7? What is this explosion? All of it will become clear”, he revealed during The Last of Us’ season 2 finale press conference.

On top of that, Mazin also hinted at a possibility of bringing back Pedro Pascal’s character in yet another flashback scene (or episode), probably delving into the details of Joel’s life during those 20 years that passed since the breakout in season 1.

“I wouldn’t have guessed we would have a short story about Joel’s dad before we wrote the season, so there you go. You can’t predict these things”, Mazin added.

When Will ‘The Last of Us’ Season 3 Be Released?

The show’s next season will likely air on HBO Max sometime in 2027.
