The Hunger Games’ new prequel doesn’t feature Louella for long after she’s introduced, though she’s still an essential figure in Haymitch Abernathy’s story and rebellion against the Capitol. Here’s everything you need to know about Louella before Sunrise on the Reaping hits the screens.

Suzanne Collins’ new prequel novel to “The Hunger Games” titled “Sunrise on the Reaping” is now being adapted for the big screens as the future movie keeps assembling its leading cast.

Going back in time once again after The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Sunrise on the Reaping will explore the events of the 50th Hunger Games, also introducing a bunch of new characters and tributes on a par with Joseph Zada’s young Haymitch Abernathy.

Apart from the latter’s eventual victory in the deadly competition, the movie will also highlight the nature of Haymitch’s relationships with his fellow tributes, including a female District 12 tribute Louella McCoy.

Even though the character might be the one with the shortest arc in the entire story, she does have her own impact on the ongoing feud between the Capitol and the districts — here’s how.

Before being reaped for the 50th Hunger Games alongside Maysilee Donner, Wyatt Callow and Woodbine Chance (who eventually ran away), Louella was one of many kids of the McCoy family that lived just three doors away from Haymitch’s house.

In fact, Louella and Haymitch have had a longer history than some might have imagined, as they knew each other from a very early age and at some point Louella even fell in love with her neighbour, calling him her sweetheart in front of everyone else.

Louella’s feelings weren’t reciprocated, but she quickly moved on.

However, Haymitch stayed in touch with her and even started calling her “sweetheart”, using the same nickname she had for him years before and thus showing his affection for her during their preparation for the Hunger Games.

What Happens to Louella During the Hunger Games? (Spoiler Alert!)

Despite Louella and Haymitch forming an alliance for the upcoming competition, they never get to reunite in the arena as Louella tragically dies during the tribute parade.

When it was time for the District 12 chariot to pass around, the horses were startled by a sudden firework, which resulted in the chariot losing its path and crashing down.

While Haymitch did survive the accident without severe injuries, Louella hit the ground and cracked her head open, dying immediately.

After realising that there’s no way to help Louella, Haymitch tried to make the Peacekeepers stay away from her body, taking Louella to the gates of President Snow’s mansion and applauding, explicitly blaming him for the death of Louella and hundreds of other innocent children who died in the Hunger Games.
