Sixteen magical girls enter a video game with a 10 billion yen prize. The game is the friendliest thing in it.

Magical Girl Raising Project: Restart premiered on October 5, 2026, on TV Tokyo, BS Fuji and AT-X, ten years after Lerche's first anime, per Anime News Network. Director Hiroyuki Hashimoto and sound director Satoki Iida are back, the new studio is SynergySP, and Minori Chihara sings the opening, "No Tears Here." It adapts Asari Endō's second and third light novels, Restart I and II, published in Japan in 2012, so the full death list has been public for more than a decade.

The premise is simple and nasty.

Every three days, 16 magical girls are pulled into an RPG-style cyber world to fight monsters, solve puzzles and earn candy. The one who lands the final blow on the game's last boss takes 10 billion yen. If a player's HP hits zero inside the game, her heart stops in the real world. Full spoilers from here on.

The death list, in order

Here's how the 13 go, in the order the light novels kill them:

  1. Magical Daisy: Her own Daisy Beam is reflected back at her by a monster. Nokko's power has been amplifying her recklessness.
  2. Masked Wonder: Hit from behind with a rock by an unknown attacker, later revealed to be Melville.
  3. Genopsyko Yumenoshima: Killed by Akane. Her body doesn't stay out of the story.
  4. Akane: She snaps and attacks the others, and @Meow-Meow kills her.
  5. Cherna Mouse: Killed automatically by the game for placing last in a candy ranking. Melville had rigged the numbers.
  6. @Meow-Meow: Pushed into a monster's attack by what looks like Genopsyko, alive. It's Rionetta, using Genopsyko's corpse as a puppet.
  7. Nonako Miyokata: Killed by a monster after a fight with Rionetta, their hostility once again pumped up by Nokko.
  8. Detec Bell: Ambushed by the killer she's been tracking, Melville, though she leaves behind enough to expose her.
  9. Rionetta: Killed by Melville after refusing to turn on her teammates. Melville had bribed her to use Genopsyko's body against @Meow-Meow.
  10. Pechka: She throws herself between Melville and Clantail.
  11. Melville: Pinned by Lapis Lazuline and killed by Clantail.
  12. Lapis Lazuline: Dies from the wounds she took holding Melville down.
  13. Nokko: The game's final boss all along. She had been manipulating the other girls' emotions to set them on each other, and she takes her own life to atone.

Melville is the arc's real body count: Masked Wonder, Detec Bell, Rionetta and Pechka directly, plus Lapis Lazuline, who dies of the fight, and Cherna Mouse through the rigged ranking. Nokko never needed to throw a punch.

Restart's final boss turns out to be the quiet girl who made everyone a little angrier than they already were. The killer with the most kills just took the opportunities.

The three who walk out

Clantail, Pfle and Shadow Gale are the only players left when it ends. They didn't win so much as outlast everyone else: Clantail lands the blow on Melville only because Lapis Lazuline is holding her down, and Pechka had already died putting herself in front of Clantail.

The man behind it all is Keek, the game's master, who ran the death game without authorization as a second "selection" for magical girls who'd survived earlier tests. She cracks once Snow White, investigating from outside, tells her what her mentor really did. The prize money goes to the families of the dead, and the three survivors visit every grave.

It's Pfle who takes the most from it. In later volumes, the deaths of the Restart players become her reason to go after the Magical Kingdom's whole system. The anime is a month in, so anyone reading this list now knows which three girls are safe to get attached to. The other 13 have about two months left.
