To fans' relief, the director emphasized that Harrison Ford won't be replaced in Indiana Jones movies.

Harrison Ford being replaced by a female actor in Indiana Jones has been in the rumor mill since Lucasfilm announced the fifth installment titled The Dial of Destiny.

It is hard to imagine any other franchise that is so linked to a single actor, but in times when no I.P. goes wasted and the studios cannot resist cashing in on nostalgia, it is only natural to assume that Indiana Jones will go on without Harrison Ford. That's why some fans speculated that Indiana Jones would pass his iconic bullwhip and fedora to his goddaughter played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the upcoming movie.

However, the director of The Dial of Destiny James Mangold turned to Twitter to sharply put a stop to the rumor he'd apparently had enough of. The director typed a reply to a since-deleted fan tweet asking if the rumor was true.

"No one is "taking over" or replacing Indy or donning his hat nor is he being "erased" thru some contrivance— and he never was, not in any cut or script — but trolls will troll — that's how they get their clicks," Mangold wrote.

Logan's director continued by dissing the "trolls" who make money off fans' interest in a franchise. He addressed those times when speculations about popular franchises turned out right by saying, "even a blind squirrel finds a nut now & then." All controversial rumors come from the intent to profit from fans' disagreements, the director thinks.

"The diff between trolling a-holes & everyone else is they r trying to make $ off your feelings about other films & culture war politics," Mangold's tweet read.

The director asked all fans to let the rumor go and not increase the views and clicks on the trolls' videos and posts. Indiana Jones fans reacted to the director's words with cautious optimism. They remembered that there were cases when directors would call rumors lies but then those rumors turned out to be true. However, the majority of commenters put their faith in James Mangold and his team.

"After what's happened with Star Wars and so many other beloved franchises lately it is easy to lose faith in these things, but I've loved your previous movies and I have high hopes for this one!" one of the commenters wrote.
