We are waiting three years for what is promised. Or five times longer.

The Winds of Winter is a book that fans of A Song of Ice and Fire have been waiting for so long that they themselves have already managed to go grey and acquire their own castles in Westeros - at least in Minecraft - and even children. And now George Martin has finally revealed a detail that both pleases and burns the nerves of everyone who loves Game of Thrones and wants to know its "real" ending.

Firstly, The Winds of Winter will officially become the thickest volume in the saga. Martin assures in one of his relatively recent interviews: the manuscript has already exceeded 1200 pages, and there are still a good 400-500 to go. This means that the sixth part will overtake even the previous record holders - A Storm of Swords and A Dance with Dragons. There is no bad news here: the more pages, the longer you can stay in this cruel and beautiful world.

But then the second “record” pops up — and it’s bitter. After all, it was the volume that caused The Winds of Winter to not reach the shelves of bookstores for 14 years. Martin honestly admits: the stories are spreading out, there are more and more characters, the plot lines are multiplying faster than rabbits. And collecting all this into a single canvas is turning out to be much more difficult than it once was in the early 90s.

The irony is that the longer the text, the slower it comes out — and the more fans lose patience. So yes, The Winds of Winter will set two records: the largest volume of the saga and the most endless writing time. One adds points to Martin as a master of the epic. The second hints that even dragons will get tired of waiting someday.
