When Marvel Studios finally gave the green light to a new Fantastic Four, it caught my attention — not least because this isn’t just another throwback. With Pedro Pascal stepping in as Mr. Fantastic, joined by Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss‑Bachrach, the new lineup already feels intriguing.

Interestingly, Pascal wasn’t always the obvious choice. For months, casting rumours swirled — from John Krasinski, who briefly appeared as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, to fan-favourites like Dev Patel. The final cast wasn’t confirmed until early 2024, and reactions have been largely positive, especially with Kirby as Sue Storm.

There’s also something compelling about the ’60s-inspired retro-futuristic setting, teased by director Matt Shakman at Comic-Con. Bright flying cars, stylised skylines, and an almost theatrical tone — it all points to a bolder vision, not merely another origin tale.

And what of the villain? Marvel hasn’t confirmed it, but fan speculation leans heavily toward Doctor Doom — perhaps even as an overarching antagonist ahead of Secret Wars. With the character's ties to both the Fantastic Four and larger Marvel lore, it would make narrative sense.

So where does Fantastic Four: First Steps fit in the grand MCU tapestry? It’s not yet tied to The Avengers, but it’s slated to join Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars as part of Phase Six. The film is currently set for release on July 25, 2025.
