Marvel’s New ‘Fantastic Four’ Movie Is Shorter Than Expected

Marvel’s next potential biggest hit after Avengers: Endgame has recently got a major update on its runtime, and fans are worried the upcoming reboot isn’t as good as it seems to be.
Marvel might be heading to its Renaissance as the premiere date for Fantastic Four: FIrst Steps approaches, but there will definitely be something diehard fans aren’t used to.
Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, the movie is expected to become Marvel’s literate marvel after a series of box office failures, also doing justice to the superhero universe’s first family that wasn’t getting good movie adaptations so far.
However, First Steps’ updated runtime is a thing to be concerned about just days before a big premiere, despite the movie’s first raving reactions.
‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Runtime Is Less Than 2 Hours
It might be just fine for a fan of movies of other genres, but Marvel’s fans are used to taking it with a grain of salt when there’s a superhero action flick lasting less than at least two and a half hours.
According to Discussing Film’s official account on X, Fantastic Four: First Steps’ final runtime is now 1 hour 55 minutes, which makes the movie Marvel’s fourth shortest film after Thor: The Dark World (1 hour 52 minutes), The Incredible Hulk (1 hour 52 minutes) and The Marvels (1 hour 45 minutes).
“Sure, if it was like 2:20-2:30 then I'd be more hopeful about the world-building and character development, but just under 2hrs isn't a problem (especially for a movie that isn't bothering to cover the origin story)”, Redditor Apprehensive-Cap2453 commented in a news-related thread.
“Can’t believe they didn’t make this 444 minutes”, Traditional-Item-546 joked.
‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ “Feels Like Interstellar”, Early Reviews Say
As if this was a quick reassurance that the runtime would really mean nothing, the first reviews for the movie prove there’s nothing for Marvel’s fans to worry about.
Apart from the leading cast’s standout performances, the critics also praised First Steps’ visuals and dubbed it as Marvel’s epic return.
“#FantasticFour First Steps is visually one of the best things Marvel has ever made. Parts feel like Interstellar & demand IMAX. Galactus is awesome. Silver Surfer looks really, really good. VFX were often immaculate. Cosmically and on Earth, Matt Shakman dropped a visual feast”, Brandon David shared in his account on X.
“Saw #TheFantasticFour today - it’s breathtaking! Stunning visuals, a moving story, witty banter and epic action. Marvel’s First Family delivers one awesome ride. Pedro Pascal nails it as Mr. Fantastic. Vanessa Kirby stands out as Sue Storm - she’s a shooting star”, Sharareh Drury also wrote on X.
Fantastic Four: First Steps starts playing in theatres worldwide on July 25.
