The most buttery, melt-in-your-mouth baking hack.

Let’s be real — baking a pie from scratch can feel incredibly intimidating, and most of us usually just grab a pre-made crust from the supermarket to save ourselves from a total kitchen disaster.

But honestly, using those dry, store-bought sheets will likely leave you with a bland dessert you won't feel proud of, especially since making a truly elite, crumbly pastry at home is way easier than it looks.

Whether you’re dreaming of a classic fruit tart, perfectly crunchy cookies, or savory mini-quiches, mastering this simple, buttery base is an absolute game-changer that will instantly make your homemade treats taste like they came straight from a high-end bakery.

Here’s what you need: 300 g of flour, 150 g of butter (or margarine) (cold), 100 g of sugar, 1 egg, a pinch of salt.

Vanilla sugar (optional)

Sift the flour with salt (and vanilla sugar), then add the cold butter, cut into cubes.

Chop with a knife or rub with your hands until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.

Add the sugar and egg, and quickly knead the dough (don’t knead for too long — otherwise the dough will become tough!).

Form a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Roll out the dough, place it in a pan, or use it for cookies or tartlets. Bake at 180°C until golden brown (15–25 minutes, depending on the item).
