Matlock Is Back: The 100%-Rated CBS Crime Drama You Can’t Miss

There’s only one genre as exciting for me as a crime drama, and it’s legal drama. Being a huge fan of Suits and Better Call Saul ( yes, I know it’s strange to put them together), I was extremely happy when I discovered CBS’s Matlock.

Matlock premiered in September 2024 and became an instant hit. The show even has a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, which means the creators did their best with this new legal drama and gave audiences something they had been waiting for.

Episode 8 of the drama dropped on Paramount+ on December 12 and the next episode is finally coming out on the platform on January 30. After that, another episode is coming on February 6, and it’s going to be the season’s finale.

Is Matlock Worth Watching?

What makes fans love Matlock is its fresh take on the rather primitive story. It's no secret that revenge stories are often used in TV shows, but this CBS show manages to explore the premise further by making an older character its main star.

Matlock tells the story of a wealthy woman named Madeline Kingston, who assumes the false identity of Matty Matlock to take a job at a prestigious law firm called Jacobson Moore. She wants to seek justice for her late daughter, because one of the pharmaceutical companies that is a client of the firm had a shady drug deal that caused the death of Madeline's daughter.

The series is full of twists and turns, and with each episode you find out new little pieces of information that help you to form the bigger picture about what is going on.

The character of Matlock is played by a brilliant Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates.

“She's still got it. The script gives her lots of those fun legal drama tricks and traps and she brings the right sass. Her doddering elder ruse is fitting for this clear successor to Matlock, Perry Mason, Columbo, and the genre,” Redditor MissDiem said.

Matlock is airing on CBS on Thursdays, at 9 pm ET. The series is also available to stream on Paramount+.
