And now the Internet appears to dislike Matthew Perry.

Friends star Matthew Perry appeared to take a sudden jab at Keanu Reeves — and Internet darling who is known as "the kindest Hollywood actor ever".

Perry, however, shocked everyone when he questioned why Reeves "still walks among us" in his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. An excerpt from the book was obtained by Variety, and it was definitely not a pleasant reading for Keanu fans.

"Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us? River was a better actor than me; I was funnier. But I certainly held my own in our scenes — no small feat, when I look back decades later," Perry writes in the memoir.

The line made the Internet so furious that Perry quickly had to apologize, claiming that he "misspoke".

"I'm actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead," Perry told People in a statement following the backlash.

Did it help? Not quite.

"Matthew Perry made a HUGE MISTAKE going after Keanu Reeves and now trying to apologize. Too bad, too late. Keanu is one of the kindest people according to every person, cast and crew included, who have ever known him," Twitter user konykhall said of the hasty apology.

People blasted Perry as a "self-indulgent tool", arguing that the Friends actor has simply not made enough "social capital" to target Keanu Reeves.

"Matthew Perry – spends $9 million on his own sobriety, whines about it in a book. Keanu Reeves – spends untold millions on secret foundation that funds paediatric health care, tells nobody." – @AnImminentKing

Besides, most people did not buy the apology — mainly due to Perry mentioning Reeves in his book not once but twice.

"In his new book, Matthew Perry brings up Keanu twice. TWICE. Both times were to say he was upset that someone else had died but Keanu was still alive. How horrible. How absolutely disgusting," Twitter user CandiceBenbow said.

Many fans recalled that Reeves himself was very emotional about passing of River and Ledger — something that made Perry's statement even more abhorring in fans' eyes.

Reeves himself has not commented on the scandalous remark. Perry's memoir is due to release on November 1 and is available for pre-order.
