McConaughey and Ferrera bring real events to the screen.

Films based on true stories often land differently, and The Lost Bus seems to lean into that. The trailer hints at something intense and grounded — and yes, the cast includes Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera, but the story itself is what stands out.

Apple TV+’s upcoming film, has just dropped its first trailer. Directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Ultimatum), the film follows a school bus driver and a teacher as they race to save 23 children from a rapidly spreading wildfire.

McConaughey plays Kevin, a driver who hears over the radio that a group of kids are stranded at school as the fire closes in. America Ferrera plays Mary, the teacher whose class is trapped.

The film is inspired by Lizzie Johnson’s book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire, which documents the real 2018 Camp Fire that devastated the town of Paradise. That detail alone sets the tone — this isn’t just a thriller, but a tribute to real people and real courage.

The film will arrive in select cinemas on September 19, and stream on Apple TV+ starting October 3. I’ll definitely be watching.
