Megan Fox Says This $1.1B Movie Was "Absolutely the Low Point" of Her Career
The conflict that nearly ruined Fox's career ended in reconciliation.
In 2009, Megan Fox was at the height of her fame – two Transformers films had made her one of the most recognizable actresses in Hollywood. However, one careless interview ruined everything.
By comparing director Michael Bay to Hitler, Fox sealed her fate. She was fired from the third movie in the series, and her career plummeted.
In an interview, Fox called that period "absolutely the low point" and admitted that she needed to apologize but couldn't bring herself to do it. Here's how the conflict unfolded, why Spielberg was furious, and how Bay and Fox finally reconciled years later.
After Criticizing Michael Bay, Megan Fox Was Replaced by Another Actress in 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon'

There had been problems between the actress and the director for a long time. Fox never liked that Bay saw her as nothing more than a sexy accessory to a big car.
She found her final audition for the first movie, in which she washed the director's Ferrari on camera, humiliating. On the set of the first movie, Fox was too intimidated to object. After the second movie, however, she plucked up the courage.
In a 2009 interview, she said:
“[Michael] wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation. He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is.
So he's a nightmare to work for but when you get him away from set, and he's not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he's so awkward, so hopelessly awkward.”
Bay took the words philosophically, but Steven Spielberg, the franchise producer and director of Schindler's List, was furious and demanded that Fox be removed from the third movie.
Bay complied, especially since the actress had already shown little enthusiasm for the role. She was replaced by British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
Megan Fox's Career Was in Tatters After the Scandal
At the time, Megan Fox didn't see her dismissal as a tragedy, but the consequences were devastating – the actress was already struggling to find projects.
Now, she was further stigmatized as someone who had aired her dirty laundry in public and angered Spielberg. Her movie flopped one after another. In 2010, she married actor Brian Austin Green and gave birth to a son, yet her career continued to falter.
Megan Fox and Michael Bay Reconciled on the Set of 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'

As Megan Fox grew up and became a mother, she began to see things differently. When she learned that Bay was casting for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, she called the director, apologized for her past actions, and offered her services.
Bay accepted the apology and cast her as April O'Neil. Their relationship evolved, and Bay now seems to respect the actress more than he did during the Transformers days.
