Decades later, the Douglases return with a personal tale.

For the first time in two decades, Michael Douglas and his son Cameron Douglas are sharing the screen once more — this time in a quietly emotional family drama titled Looking Through Water. The film has been picked up for U.S. theatrical release this summer by Good Deed Entertainment, marking a rare father-son collaboration in a landscape that often favours franchises over feeling.

Directed by Roberto Sneider, Looking Through Water tells the story of a distant father who tries to rebuild his relationship with his son by joining him in a father-son fishing competition. It’s a quiet but meaningful story about healing, reconnecting, and learning to forgive — all symbolized through the calm of the water and the patience of fishing. The cast includes Walker Scobell, David Morse, Michael Stahl-David, Tamara Tunie and Ximena Romo, rounding out a textured ensemble.

The screenplay, penned by Road House director Rowdy Herrington and Fast X writer Zach Dean, is adapted from Bob Rich’s novels Catching Big Fish and Looking Through Water. Rich himself serves as executive producer, bringing a clear-eyed intimacy to the project. The film was previously titled Blood Knot, but has since taken on a softer, more meditative name — fitting, perhaps, for a story that trades spectacle for sincerity.

It’s not the first time the Douglas family has appeared together on screen. Back in 2003, It Runs in the Family brought three generations — including Michael’s legendary parents, Kirk and Diana Douglas — into one film. But this latest outing feels different: leaner, quieter, and more personal. After all, it’s not every day that Hollywood gives us real fathers and sons playing... real fathers and sons.
