Mike Flanagan’s Upcoming Projects: A Complete Guide

The Life of Chuck is about to become Mike Flanagan’s most recent and probably most exciting release to-date, but there’s more for Stephen King’s fans to wait for from the director in the upcoming years. We’re breaking down every new movie and show Mike Flanagan is planning right now.
Even before helming The Life of Chuck based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, Mike Flanagan became the author’s most trusted filmmaker with already three movie adaptations under his belt.
However, with the Tom Hiddleston-led movie arriving in theatres worldwide this week, Flanagan is yet to keep himself busy with more exciting projects, though they might go way beyond Stephen King’s universe.
Apart from two highly anticipated TV series that will mark yet another couple of collaborations with King, the director is also planning an entrance into a hit horror franchise which might take some place right next to Stephen King’s future adaptations on your watchlist.
Mike Flanagan Is Working on TV Adaptations of Stephen King’s Most Popular Books
For quite some time now, Flanagan has been rumoured to work on a TV show based on Stephen King’s hit book series “The Dark Tower”.
Nothing has been confirmed yet about the series itself or its premiere date, but Flanagan’s possible next project will surely become a dream coming true moment for all of King’s fans ever since the latest adaptation of the same name released back in 2017 flopped dramatically.
Apart from that, the director is (now officially) helming a TV adaptation of King’s first ever novel Carrie, with the future show being produced by Amazon MGM.
“’Carrie’ is an iconic story that has withstood the test of time with continued cultural relevance. With Mike Flanagan at the helm and the accomplished team assembled including executive producer Trevor Macy this provocative series is sure to captivate our global customers”, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios Vernon Sanders revealed in a statement shared by Variety back in April.
Mike Flanagan Will Also Direct a Movie for ‘The Exorcist’ Franchise
Even though he might be the one who helmed some of the best adaptations of Stephen King’s novels, it’s not only this that Flanagan is moving forward with.
As for now, the director is seemingly busy with developing another movie for The Exorcist franchise; there’s not much to know about the upcoming film, but it’s expected to be released sometime in the spring of 2026.
Apart from that, it was revealed last year that Flanagan would also direct a DC Universe film about Clayface, but he has recently given a discouraging update about the movie’s progress.
“I don’t know what they’re doing with Clayface. I’m not directing it, and that filmmaker will need to make it their own. I know that they’re doing work on the script. I’m off doing other things now, I really hope it remains true to the spirit of what I wanted it to be. But it’s not my movie, so I’ll be in the audience with you, anxious to see how it comes out”, Flanagan revealed in a recent interview with ComicBook.
Meanwhile, The Life of Chuck is set to arrive in theatres on June 7.
