MGM+’s new TV series starring Game of Thrones’ Sean Bean adapts the English folklore’s famous legend, but with a couple of modern twists.

Despite Game of Thrones continuing its legacy with House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, nothing can get that close to arguably HBO’s most iconic show of all time.

Based on George Martin’s not less iconic “A Song of Ice and Fire” novel series, Game of Thrones has given its fans so many unforgettable moments that will forever remain in the world’s pop culture, and even some of the series’ lead actors might be a bit nostalgic about the whole thing six years after Game of Thrones’ ending.

If you feel like watching something like Game of Thrones these days, MGM+’s Robin Hood is your perfect choice for a number of reasons.

Famous for his role of Ned Stark in Game of Thrones’ season 1, Sean Bean might be one of the reasons why Robin Hood is currently dominating the streaming charts across the world, with millions of fans glued to their screens to see the actor in a pretty unexpected role.

The new TV show recounts the same old story of the eponymous folklore character, starring Aussie Jack Patten in the leading role as Sean Bean as infamous Sheriff of Nottingham, the main antagonist and unjust tyrant who brings his people into misery by subjecting them to unaffordable taxes.

Critics have been nothing but stunned by Robin Hood’s acting performances and visuals, noting Sean Bean’s ability to give his character an additional depth in the new version, which might make audiences relate to Sheriff of Nottingham more than to his counterparts in other adaptations.

‘Robin Hood’ Creators Call Their Character “Batman From the Period”

Even though the legend about Robin Hood has been adapted several times in the past decade, the new show’s producers think it’s important to frame the character accordingly to the era and audiences he is being created for.

As Robin Hood’s executive producer John Glenn said in an interview with TVInsider recently, the legendary figure can now represent some kind of an Avenger for the modern viewers.

“Every generation seems to have a version of Robin Hood. And I think it’s because he sort of represents this sort of caped Avenger, this vigilante figure. He fights for the common man. He fights for the common people, the peasants of the period, and those are very relatable things now today”, Glenn stated.

Additionally, Glenn suggests Robin Hood might be a superhero that has an even bigger importance and DC and Marvel’s characters nowadays.

“The disparity between wealth and poverty in the world today is extreme, and as it was in that period in the Middle Ages. And I think he’s a very relatable figure because of that. He’s a sort of Batman from the period”, the producer added.

Robin Hood’s two first episodes are streaming on MGM+ now, with the third episode airing on November 9.
