MobLand season 3 was renewed before season 2 even premiered — so when is the release date?
Paramount+ ordered more Harrigan family drama before anyone had seen season 2, which makes a lot more sense once you know what happened on set.
There's no MobLand season 3 release date yet. What there is: a renewal that Paramount+ announced on September 3, 2026, two weeks before season 2 premiered on September 18, with Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren all named as returning. Season 2's ten episodes roll out weekly through the finale on November 20.
When season 3 will realistically arrive
Paramount+ hasn't said, but the production calendar does most of the work:
- Season 1 premiered March 30, 2025, and was renewed in June 2025.
- Season 2 wrapped filming in March 2026 and premiered six months later.
- Season 3 starts filming in November 2026, Brosnan told Screen Rant.
If season 3 shoots through roughly spring 2027 and post-production takes about as long as it did on season 2, fall 2027 is the realistic window. If Paramount+ repeats the 18-month gap between seasons 1 and 2, it slides to early 2028.
Why renew so early? Tom Hardy
A few months before the renewal, it wasn't clear the show's star would be back at all. In May 2026, Puck reported that Hardy was out after season 2, and Deadline added that friction between him and showrunner Jez Butterworth had boiled over to the point where the two could no longer work together, with Hardy's chronic lateness to set among the issues. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Hardy at times refused to leave his trailer and gave unsolicited script notes. One source was blunt about the optics:
"Keeping Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and others waiting is career suicide, I would wager."
— an unnamed source, to The Hollywood Reporter
Hardy wasn't technically fired, since he'd finished his season 2 obligations, and his original contract was believed to cover three seasons, with the studio holding an option on him. A meeting in London with Butterworth and 101 Studios' David Glasser, with Guy Ritchie also pitching in, patched things up. In August, Paramount+ head of originals Jane Wiseman still said the streamer hadn't made a decision. The September announcement settled it, with Hardy's name right at the top.

Brosnan, for his part, says he has no idea where the story goes next, and that's how he likes it:
"I don't talk to Jez Butterworth."

The other clock running in the background
Butterworth's deal with Paramount ends at the end of 2026, and in April 2026 he signed a five-year overall deal with Universal, TheWrap reported. Season 3, in other words, is being written by a showrunner who already has his next home lined up at a competitor.
The two biggest original series in Paramount+ history are Landman and MobLand, and the people running both, Taylor Sheridan and Jez Butterworth, have each signed future deals with Universal.
Sheridan's NBCUniversal TV deal kicks in on January 1, 2029. Butterworth also produces Paramount+'s The Agency, alongside 101 Studios.
