Just three simple ingredients, and you’ll get one of the most delicious European meals for dinner.

We might be used to a thought that the best food is actually the most complicated when it comes to making it, but in many famous dishes’ cases this is far from being true. Take the Swiss Rösti as an example — the casserole dish requires only three essential ingredients and turns out perfect for a family lunch or dinner. Keep this recipe for tonight’s meal, and you won’t regret it.

Here’s what you need: 3–4 potatoes, 100 g of ham, 100 g of hard cheese (it’s important to choose one that melts well, like Emmental or Gouda), 2–3 tablespoons of vegetable oil, salt, ground black pepper.

Boil the potatoes in their skins beforehand, peel them, and grate them using a coarse grater. Season with salt and pepper. Add some of the diced ham and mix everything together.

Place a skillet over high heat and heat the oil. Reduce the heat and spread the potatoes in the skillet, pressing them down with a spoon. When the potatoes are browned to a golden crust (this will take about 5–7 minutes), flip them over.

Dice the remaining ham and grate the cheese using a coarse grater. Place the ham on top of the potatoes and sprinkle the rest with a thick layer of cheese; it should melt. To speed up the process, you can cover the pan with a lid.
