The controversy centers around YouTube megastar MrBeast's involvement in the episode The Screaming of the Tyrannosaur. The news has sparked some heated discussion.
“MrBeast? Yeah I'm not watching- that's a bummer man,” Redditor Prudent-Air1922 wrote.
“There will be tons of people who will be introduced to LD&R exclusively because MrBeast is involved. And, let's be real, LD&R fans won't not watch these just because a youtuber we don't like voices one of the parts, I doubt we'd even notice if we weren't looking for it,” Redditor Grays42 noted.
“I'm sure Netflix has metrics on what episodes get played. If we all skip this one, it'll send a clear message,” Redditor boxsterguy said.
Understanding the Controversy: Who is MrBeast?
For those unfamiliar with the drama, Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, is YouTube's most-subscribed content creator, famous for his expensive videos, philanthropy and over-the-top competitions. However, just last year, he faced a lot of controversies.
Among them was his Amazon hit-show Beast Games. The show gathered 50 million viewers in just 25 days. However, it also faced serious allegations about its treatment of participants. One of contestants told The New York Times:
“We signed up for the show, but we didn’t sign up for not being fed or watered or treated like human beings.”
On top of that, Donaldson has received a lot of criticism online for the performative nature of his videos throughout the years.
People also have speculated that some of his videos were fake. This belief deepened when fellow YouTuber Rosanna Pansino alleged that she was deliberately edited out of one of MrBeast's competition videos. During JUST TRISH podcast, Pansino revealed:
“And that's when I actually stopped watching MrBeast's content because he always in interviews says the thing about him is he keeps it real. It wasn't real. I was top 3 and he edited it to be all men.”
