Hasbro’s pony story might soon fall victim to the infamous live-action remake curse, but fans know what My Little Pony’s next adaptation should do.

While Disney’s live-action remakes are gradually becoming the mouse house’s priority over completely new movies, other companies’ originally toy stories aren’t staying behind either.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie proved so back in 2023, leading to many similar projects being pushed into production after years of doubts.

It seems like it’s time for My Little Pony to get its own live-action adaptation too now that the news about Amazon MGM’s new project has been confirmed by Variety.

However, there’s little hope for the cartoon’s fans to see something truly worthy — unless the future film keeps one simple rule.

‘My Little Pony’ Fans Want Adaptation Similar to ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’

It’s not yet clear how exactly Amazon MGM will handle the live-action take considering that My Little Pony’s main characters are, well, colorful talking ponies.

However, the movie might still have a chance with the audiences if it doesn’t go full CGI mode, also leaving much of the live action behind.

“If this is actually true, PLEASE let it be done in a similar way as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, with humans interacting with actual cartoons instead of CGI. Also NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS A LIVE ACTION REMAKE”, Redditor ReesesBees urged in a thread’s comment section under the news.

“I am guessing that it will go back to G1 type content. A lot of these live action remakes rely on nostalgia to be a hit. So they will probably have a human interacting with “real” cgi ponies”, Goblin_King_Jareth1 added.

Meanwhile Disney Is Also Planning ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2’

Even though the studio might in fact have a sequel of Robert Zemeckis’ hit fantasy comedy on the list, the director isn’t quite sure Disney will be able to handle the potential film even with a good script.

Zemeckis addressed the issues a while ago, slamming the company for completely misinterpreting Jessica Rabbit’s image.

“They can’t make a movie with Jessica in it. So there is a [Peter] Seaman and [Jeffrey] Price sequel script. Is it ever going to see the light of day, as good as it is? I mean look at what they did with Jessica at the theme park, they trussed her up in a trench coat”, Zemeckis said during his appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast back in 2024.
