"I only know if something is a lie. The real trick of it is to figure out: Why?"

Gear up for an upcoming 10-episode mystery-of-the-week series, Poker Face, starring Natasha Lyonne, an Emmy and Golden Globe nominated producer, actor, writer, and director also famous for co-creating Netflix Emmy-winning series Russian Doll. The show will premiere on January 26.

In the meantime, Peacock, an American over-the-top video streaming service, has released the first teaser for Poker Face, the murder mystery drama and the first TV project for filmmaker Rian Johnson, who directed Knives Out and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

In 2021 Rian Johnson shared his excitement to be part of the new project.

"I'm very excited to dig into the type of fun, character driven, case-of-the-week mystery goodness I grew up watching. It's my happy place," he said while Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming praised Johnson's sensibility and talent for telling edge-of-your-seat mysteries, which she saw as a massive gift for Peacock (via Deadline).

In the series Natasha Lyonne's character Charlie Cale possessing an extraordinary ability to detect lies, sets off on a journey in her highly styled coupe Plymouth Barracuda. At every stop she meets people and has to solve strange crimes. Apart from Natasha Lyonne the crime drama series features other Hollywood A-listers like Adrien Brody (The Pianist) Rhea Perlman (Matilda, Cheers), Chelsei Frei (While You Were Breeding, Dollface), Rowan Blanchard (Crush, Snowpiercer ) and Benjamin Bratt (Private Practice) to name a few.

"We invite you to follow Charlie on a cross-country road trip as she meets a rogue's gallery of characters and avenges a new injustice each episode, armed with little more than her uncanny ability to detect lies and a genuine appreciation for her fellow humans (and the occasional dog)," the Johnson and Lyonne statement says.

They both have revealed some details of how the series came into being saying one should never underestimate the power of a good dinner conversation between friends. They also wrote that what started as a discussion over steak frites about detective shows and why they are such a reliable pleasure "resulted in the creation of Charlie, the driving force behind Poker Face."

Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne are executive producers of the show alongside Ram Bergman, Nora Zuckerman, Lila Zuckerman, Nena Rodrigue and Iain B. Macdonald. Maya Rudolph and Danielle Renfrew Behrens are co-executive producers while T-Street and MRC Television produce.

The series will premiere on January 26, 2023 with four episodes followed by drops on Thursdays every week.
