Gyeongseong Creature

IMDb 7.3/10

It's 1945, Korea is under the brutal rule of the Imperial Japanese Army, and all roads lead to the mysteriously guarded Ongseong Hospital, from which no patient ever returns. Two young adults band together after encountering a terrifying creature and embark on a rescue mission with the intention of infiltrating the hospital.

The series goes deep into the horror aspect as a small group of civilians form a resistance against the military and discover the sickening experiments being performed on their captives, from slaughter to parasitic worm infections. The most horrifying aspect is not the creature born from these heinous experiments, but the real-life acts committed by Japanese Army Unit 731 that inspired the story.

Sweet Home

IMDb 7.7/10

Home is where the heart is, but when the world is taken over by savage creatures, an apartment block becomes a terrifying prison and the last hope for safety. Based on the webtoon of the same name, this Korean thriller differs from other monster apocalypse genres with its concept of curses.

As the world is overrun by terrifying monsters and humans are rapidly turning into savage creatures, lonely high school student Hyun-su discovers that he too has been infected, but can contain the monster within. Hyun-su uses his newfound monster abilities to protect his home and its survivors, but not just from the vicious creatures. Sweet Home blurs the line between humanity and monsters, making us wonder if the two are as black and white as we believe.

When their worlds collide, Nam Ji Ah is drawn into a terrifying world of magic and romance as she struggles to uncover the truth, while Lee Yeon fights to protect her from his vengeful stepbrother. Fans have described the blend of fantasy and horror as 'mesmerizing,' with convincing characters and an ending that could potentially set off the waterworks.
