Netflix hasn't ended Wednesday. Jenna Ortega sounds like she already has
Season 3 wrapped filming this month. Its star spent the same month telling a podcast what she'll do when the show is over, and none of it involves television.
Wednesday is not canceled: season 3 wrapped filming in early October after shooting in Paris and Dublin, it's set for 2027, and the cast additions are the opposite of a wind-down — Winona Ryder reuniting with Ortega and Tim Burton, plus Eva Green as Ophelia Frump, Morticia's long-teased sister.
The uncertainty is coming from the star. On Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ortega was asked about her future, and her answers, reported by The Hollywood Reporter, kept pointing one direction:
"I think after Wednesday, I'll probably be off the TV for a while."
— Jenna Ortega, on Happy Sad Confused
She added that she hasn't "had a lot of franchise conversations" and that "what I'm meant to do will come and find me." None of that announces an end date. All of it describes an actress with an exit, planning for the far side of it.
Why her mood is the show's forecast
Wednesday is not an ensemble that can survive a lead swap. Season 2 part 1 drew 50 million views in its first five days on the strength of exactly one performance, Ortega is a producer on the show as of that season, and there is no version of Nevermore Academy that Netflix can sell without her in the uniform.

Her calendar is already saying what the podcast said. Klara and the Sun, with Ortega as the android lead, opens in theaters October 23 — and the comments under the Horowitz interview show where her audience's attention is going too, with one viewer praising her for "bringing up Dogme 95, True Romance, and action films" and looking forward to Klara alongside season 3.
Netflix has announced no final season. Its lead has announced, in order: no franchise talks, a long break from TV, and a film opening this week.
So the practical advice in the headline is sincere. Fans have floated five-season dreams for Wednesday since 2022; the person those dreams depend on is already describing what comes after. Watch season 3 like it's the last confirmed one, because right now that's exactly what it is.
