There are plenty more monsters lurking to keep going.

Netflix’s Monster anthology has already sunk its teeth into streaming history, smashing the billion-hour mark alongside giants like Squid Game and Stranger Things 4. Just when you thought Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan might give our nerves a rest, they’re sharpening the axe for Monster season 4 — and this time, it’s Lizzie Borden in the spotlight.

Sources whispering to Nexus Point News say the new season will dive into the infamous 1892 Fall River murders, weaving a dark web around Lizzie, her father Andrew, stepmother Abby, and the ever-intriguing family housekeeper.

From Dahmer to Menendez — and now Borden

This anthology of American nightmares began in 2022 with Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, starring Evan Peters as the chilling cannibal and Niecy Nash as the neighbour who saw too much. Viewers devoured it — horror, after all, is best served with real-life tragedy.

Season 2 took a sledgehammer to suburban privilege with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, led by Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez as the infamous brothers, while Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny portrayed their doomed parents.

Up next is season 3, Monster: The Original Monster, following the grotesque legacy of Ed Gein. Charlie Hunnam transforms into Gein, joined by Laurie Metcalf as his mother Augusta, Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock (because who could resist tying Psycho to this?), Olivia Williams as Alma Reville, and Suzanna Son in a still-mysterious role.

Lizzie Borden took an axe…

Now, with Borden’s axe poised once more, Murphy and Brennan seem set to peel back the polite layers of Victorian New England. Lizzie was famously tried and acquitted for the grisly murders of her father and stepmother — then lived out her days under a heavy cloud of gossip until her death in 1927.

Production is slated to start this autumn in Los Angeles. Expect whalebone corsets, blood-streaked parlours, and the uneasy question echoing down the ages: did Lizzie do it, or was she simply the era’s most convenient monster?
