It’s probably not even the plot the viewers are so invested in.

Netflix ’s new arrivals and old flicks are once again in a tough race competing for viewers’ attention this week, but the streaming has an undeniable leader that probably won’t be beaten for a bit longer.

The movie in question is Netflix’s new thriller comedy Back in Action which isn’t even an extraordinary story with compelling plot twists anyway, but rather a film that marks Cameron Diaz’s nearly legendary return to the industry years after she decided to quit acting.

Despite being a long-awaited action-packed adventure, Back in Action wasn’t met with that much of critics’ enthusiasm upon its arrival, but still has a chance to become Netflix’s new record breaker.

Back in Action Was Crashed by Critics, but Received Major Support from Viewers

Starring Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, and Andrew Scott in the leading roles, the movie follows Matt and Emily, former CIA operatives and now husband and wife living happily with their kids after quitting their jobs; however, they’re soon called back into action when their secret identities are revealed to their former boss.

Packed with fast pace sequences, Back in Action might be a solid watch for those who enjoy thrillers and such, yet the film wasn’t that much of an entertainment for critics who left it with a disheartening score of 26% based on 82 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Still, critical response quite rarely has influence on Netflix’s viewers who brought the movie up to the first spot in the streaming’s global top chart.

Back in Action Has Been Netflix’s Number One Movie for More Than 10 Days Now — and Aims for More

Having premiered on Netflix’s platform on January 17, the film keeps an amazing streak, spending its 11th consecutive day as the streaming’s most watched flick in the global top.

Though we still have to see whether there will eventually be a decline in Back in Action’s popularity on Netflix in the upcoming days, the movie is currently heading towards setting a new record that now belongs to Carry-On, last year’s Christmassy action movie with Taron Egerton in the leading role.

The movie was Netflix’s massive hit with 21-day-long run of being the top film in the global chart; other movies of 2024 like The Union, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and Hit Man made it to stay at the number one spot for 10 days in a row, but still were surpassed by Back in Action.
