Just when we thought the brits couldn’t top themselves, another perfectly crafted mystery thriller hit streaming services. Succession-like drama is waiting for you, and here’s why.

There can’t be too many family dramas with mysterious twists, can there? Apparently that was the thought Chris Lang had before creating the future hit series called I, Jack Wright. The new show already has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, which is a sign that it is a must watch.

The show stars John Simm, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Daniel Rigby and Trevor Eve and premiered in the United Kingdom on U&Alibi on April 23, 2025. Now available to stream on BritBox and on Prime Video in the U.S., the series is directed by Tom Vaughan and produced by Nickie Sault.

What Is I, Jack Wright About?

I, Jack Wright is a British family drama about the aftermath of the attempted suicide of a wealthy family patriarch. After his death, it's discovered that his will surprisingly leaves virtually nothing of his fortune to his third wife and two sons.

So at the heart of the story is Jack Wright himself, a brick-making tycoon who is mysteriously shot one night at his countryside estate. Initially, it’s assumed he may have shot himself, but DCI Harry Morgan (a subtly compelling performance by Harry Lloyd) soon confirms that Wright was murdered.

What follows is a slow unraveling of family secrets as each relative is informed of the death. First there is Graham, the eldest son, a washed-up musician clinging to his faded '90s Britpop fame and dreaming of becoming a business mogul. Then there's his younger brother John, a nervous, intimidated man who now runs the family business.

John's domineering wife Georgia is a major presence, while Jack's first wife and her partner, Bobby, re-enter the picture. Also present is Jack's third and current wife, Sally, and finally Emily, Graham's daughter and Jack's granddaughter.

Each of them becomes a suspect in the murder, which only takes high-stakes drama into this power-struggle story that ends with a surprise.

What Do Fans and Critics Think of the Show?

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, I, Jack Wright has 100% from critics.
  • On IMDb, I, Jack Wright has 7.1/10.
