New ‘Harry Potter’ Star Breaks Silence on Filming HBO Reboot: “A Bit Surreal”

HBO’s reboot of the Harry Potter film series might have long remained a controversial idea, but things did change after the series found its golden trio.

Now led by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout as Harry, Hermione and Ron respectively, the show is about to turn into once-in-a-lifetime experience for each of them, something that McLaughlin has already acknowledged while still filming the show’s first season somewhere in the UK.

However, the original movie series’ fans took the young actor’s revelations with a grain of salt, having doubts about his, well, love for the wizarding world.

Dominic McLaughlin Says Filming ‘Harry Potter’ Still Feels “a Bit Surreal”

Now that the actor is booked for a solid decade working on the series’ next seasons, McLaughlin still can’t reconcile with the fact that he’s now replacing Daniel Radcliffe in a cult role — in fact, he can’t believe his dream role actually got in his way.

“A bit surreal to be honest, because I was always a huge ‘Harry Potter’ fan when I was younger. And it was like the dream role, of course, so I’m thrilled to be able to be doing it”, McLaughlin revealed in an interview with BBC News while promoting his new movie Grow where he starred alongside his Harry Potter co-star Nick Frost.

For now, not many details from the first season’s set have been revealed, but HBO is seemingly in the middle of the entire production, judging by some photos that got leaked recently.

‘Harry Potter’ Fans Don’t Feel Like Dominic McLaughlin Could Be an Actual “Huge Fan”

As many predicted at the time when the leading actors for the show were announced, the young actors, despite heading towards world fame, are now doomed to remain under public surveillance, with some seeking ways to criticize them for whatever reason.

Even though the show’s first season isn’t done filming yet, some of the Harry Potter series fans doubted McLaughlin’s love for the franchise just due to his age.

“Dude is 10, he didn’t live in the “Harry Potter “ crazy era. When he was born , there were no movies left”, Redditor mozarellaguy ranted in a thread.

Many retorted by saying that movies series like Harry Potter usually remain a timeless classic, though admitted that there was something special about growing up alongside the movies’ actors.

“I will say that it was kind of a special and unique experience while the HP books were coming out. Kids could grow up with the characters. It was unusual, but magical”, ImpossibleInternet3 said.

Harry Potter’s first season is now scheduled for a release sometime in 2027.
