New James Bond actor announcement in October 2026: the one date fans have circled, and the seven names still standing
After a year of phone calls, screen tests, and Gary Oldman's inability to keep a secret, the 007 reveal is finally down to weeks — and the internet thinks it knows which day.
The next James Bond will be named soon. That's not fan delusion anymore — it's the studio's own messaging. Insider MyTimeToShineHello reported that Amazon MGM expects to announce the casting in October, producer Amy Pascal called the end of the year "a good bet," and studio chief Courtenay Valenti committed to "before the end of the year — at the very latest." Gary Oldman went further than all of them, saying the decision is already made:
"They have picked him."
So which day? Fans have circled Monday, October 5 — Global James Bond Day, the franchise's own holiday marking the 1962 premiere of Dr. No, and the kind of marketing-calendar bullseye Amazon would struggle to resist. The tea-leaf readers note that Regal just scheduled an all-Bond theatrical retrospective launching that exact day, pegged to Casino Royale's 20th anniversary. The precedent is real, too: Daniel Craig himself was unveiled at a London press conference on an October 14, back in 2005. None of this is confirmation — it's pattern recognition with a license to hope.
The seven still standing
Across the betting boards and the credible reporting, the field has thinned to seven:
- Jack Lowden — the favorite, 5/2 and climbing after his Slow Horses co-star Oldman all but named him. Would be the first Scottish Bond since Connery.
- Callum Turner — 3/1, recently married to Dua Lipa, and spotted holidaying at Ian Fleming's GoldenEye estate, which is either a coincidence or the least subtle audition in history.
- Jacob Elordi — reported meetings with the director; would be the youngest Bond ever and the second Australian after George Lazenby.
- Louis Partridge — 10/3 with the bookmakers and the youth-vote dark horse.
- Harris Dickinson — 4/1 despite having answered the Bond question with, verbatim, "Nah."
- Tom Francis — the wild card: a 26-year-old Olivier-winning Sunset Boulevard stage star with a confirmed audition per Variety.
- Paul Mescal — perpetually shortlisted, perpetually about 10% in the markets.
Whoever it is answers to Denis Villeneuve, who directs from a Steven Knight script — Knight has called writing Bond his "duty for King and country" — with Nina Gold casting and production targeted for 2027. Villeneuve has reportedly been phoning finalists personally, which explains why half of young British Hollywood has developed excellent phone manners.

The peanut gallery, meanwhile, keeps voting. Danny Boyle — who nearly directed Bond 25 — offered his own pick this week:
"They should cast Jack."
He meant Jack O'Connell. Wrong Jack, probably. Monday will tell.
