New Spell or Old Broomstick? Fans React to 'Hocus Pocus 3' Talk

Sarah Jessica Parker’s casual update left the fandom split once again.
Is there enough magic left for a third trip to Salem? Sarah Jessica Parker recently stopped by Watch What Happens Live! and was asked about the long-rumored Hocus Pocus 3. Disney announced it was in the works two years ago, but since then — almost total silence.
Parker didn’t have big news to share, saying simply, "No more developments other than we would like to do it. We’ve been having some conversations."
Fans know Parker, along with Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy, first brought the Sanderson sisters to life in 1993’s Hocus Pocus. The film became a Halloween staple, mixing campy comedy with moments that actually spooked kids. All three witches returned for Hocus Pocus 2 in 2022, but that sequel got a pretty mixed reaction.
Some fans on Reddit are already skeptical about another sequel.
One wrote, "Not sure this is a great idea. Part 2 was uninspired. Perhaps the ladies need the check."
Another joked that it would be a real surprise if Disney actually put meaningful effort into any of these remakes, hinting at how often nostalgia gets recycled without much care.
Many felt the second film lost the original’s edge.
As one person put it, "The second one had some fun moments but the whole fight scene was so underwhelming. I remember genuinely being scared by the suspense in the original, but in this one it basically felt like... meh."
There’s also some side-eye aimed at Parker’s career choices.
One comment wondered, "What is going on with SJP? She has money and clout to produce original projects, but she keeps going back to reboots of stuff. First the Sex and the City movies, the awful TV reboot, and now more Hocus Pocus. On top of all that, she acts like she has no idea what’s going on in any of these projects even though she’s an executive producer."
