"New Teen Wolf" Apparently Flops, And Honestly? No One's Surprised

With Teen Wolf now opting for occasional movies, the werewolf topic is not completely abandoned on TV, with a new show here to try to capture our hearts and minds. Too bad it... fails.

Now with its first season wrapped, could Wolf Pack, a new Paramount Plus show, succeed in replicating the love the acclaimed teen drama had? Short answer is perhaps, with an emphasis on unlikely.

The reason so many people were initially attracted to then-promising Wolf Pack series is just one name: Sarah Michelle Gellar. The actress is true geek world's royalty, and wherever she goes, fans go.

After the cult series Buffy The Vampire Slayer came to a close, Michelle Gellar hadn't had much luck in landing a long-running series (Dead Ringer and The Crazy Ones were both cancelled after just one season each).

So, the anticipation for Michelle Gellar's return to fighting the supernatural nasty was overwhelming.

Which is not the case with the fan reactions show received during and after its recent first season. Fans find Wolf Pack "confusing," and some even find it just "bad."

The show is being primarily criticized for its very slow pace and lack of character development. Fans seem also to agree that Sarah Michelle Gellar gets too little screen time and space "to make any sort of impact at all."

And of course, comparisons to Teen Wolf couldn't help but come up. A lot. And so far not in Wolf Pack's favor.

When comparing the two werewolf series, fans admit Teen Wolf had deeper characters (not embodiments of one defining trait, as the characters of Wolf Pack), lighter tone and it just made viewers get more invested in the plot and characters. Wolf Pack, on the other hand, fails to achieve that.

As fans' grievances go, "From the very first episode teen wolf snags you with its characters…[and] wolf pack does not."

Some viewers go to much more explicit lengths while describing their dissatisfaction with the Sarah Michelle Gellar's new show.

"It's an [bad] show. Regardless of Teen Wolf. I'm only saying it's worse because I specifically watched it because it's by the same creator. If this was an unrelated show on Netflix, it would still be [bad]. The characters have literally no personality, aside from the gay guy.

I know literally nothing about his sister and it's like 5 episodes in. Jeff Davis is a [bad] writer and Netflix has canned a plethora of teen shows better than this," Redditor circlefan345 rants.

Essentially, Wolf Pack is not a Teen Wolf spinoff, but many fans started watching it hoping to fill the Teen Wolf-shaped hole in their hearts. Well, it is what it is, huh?

So far, there's no information whether Wolf Pack will be renewed for a second season. But if it does (if only for Sarah Michelle Gellar's sake), the show better do some damage control.
