This proposal is just impossible to refuse.

Summary:

  • Chicago Fire is an NBC procedural drama that focuses on the daily lives and work of firefighters.
  • The last season of the show ended on a cliffhanger as Matt Casey proposed to Sylvie Brett.
  • As showrunner Andrea Newman teased, fans won't have to wait too long for her answer, and it will be revealed in the season premiere.

Chicago Fire is one of the TV shows that has certainly had a rough go of it this midseason. With so many cast changes, and only one of them being a truly long-awaited comeback, the show risks upsetting its fans if the departures aren't handled right.

After all, both Kara Kilmer and Alberto Rosende, who are set to leave Chicago Fire in the upcoming season 12, were as beloved by the audience as their characters, and there is no way people will find it easy to forgive the writers if something happens to them. Fortunately, at least one of them has all the chances for a happy ending.

Sylvie Brett's departure has to be connected with a temporary return of Jesse Spencer's Matt Casey.

Since season 11 of the show ended with a huge cliffhanger of an unreturned marriage proposal, many believe that Brett will have to leave to lead a new happy life as a married woman, untroubled by the constant danger and drama that followed her character throughout her long Chicago Fire run.

While it's hard to imagine the writers being cruel enough to deprive viewers of at least one truly happy ending, there's always a chance of a twist. And that slim chance is already making viewers very anxious about the wait for season 12.

The good news is that the wait will soon be over: Chicago Fire is set to return to NBC on January 17, 2024, which is less than a month away. Plus, as teased by showrunner Andrea Newman, Brett's decision will be announced right in the premiere episode.

“Brett’s answer to Casey’s proposal is a mystery that’s revealed in the premiere, during an incident at 51 where Violet has to get creative to save the day,” she said to TVLine.

The nature of a mysterious incident might be just the thing to theorize about to get stressed-out minds off the subject of the proposal for a while. Whether we like it or not, Chicago Fire is going to have to move past all the departures and new cast members and focus on the characters who aren't going anywhere.

If you want to find out if Sylvie Brett will finally be the person to bring Matt Casey's story to a heartfelt conclusion, or if we are in for another heartbreak, be sure to tune in to NBC on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Stay tuned for all the news and behind-the-scenes updates!
