Noah Wyle is Sexiest Man Alive — fans say he's not even the sexiest doctor on his show
People crowned The Pitt's star on October 27. The fandom immediately produced a counter-candidate from the same emergency room.
People named Noah Wyle its 2026 Sexiest Man Alive on October 27. The star and executive producer of HBO Max's The Pitt takes the title from Wicked's Jonathan Bailey, and his first reaction, by his own account, was suspicion.
"I thought that sounded like a prank."
— Noah Wyle, to People
He credits his wife of 12 years, Sara Wells, with talking him into believing it, and added that "not in a million years" did he expect the honor. Fans, meanwhile, spent the day relitigating the choice — not against other celebrities, but against Wyle's own cast list.
The counter-candidate works the night shift
The complaint of the day, per the top comments: "he's not even the sexiest man on the pitt but okay," and, more specifically, "If it had to be someone from The Pitt, Shawn Hatosy was right there!!" Hatosy plays Dr. Jack Abbot, the night-shift attending whose season 1 turn earned him an Emmy nomination — and whose fancam count has been outpacing his screen time since the show premiered.

People has survived worse disagreements, and the magazine's actual criteria have always leaned on the year's biggest show as much as the face. On that score the choice explains itself: The Pitt won the drama Emmy in September 2025, Wyle won lead actor, and season 3 arrives on HBO Max in January 2027.

Clooney called this in January
The longer arc is the one ER viewers clocked instantly. George Clooney got the title in 1997, three seasons into playing Doug Ross opposite Wyle's John Carter. Wyle spent those years collecting five straight Emmy nominations for Carter without a win, watched Clooney take the cover, and then waited.
Clooney won Sexiest Man Alive in 1997, during ER's fourth season. Wyle's title arrived 29 years later, from his second hospital show.
The strangest detail is that the prediction already existed on tape. In January 2026, presenting Wyle's AARP Movies for Grownups award for The Pitt, Clooney told the room "When I grow up, I want to be Noah Wyle" — and then joked that AARP should launch a "Sexiest Man Still Alive" issue, adding: "I would nominate Noah Wyle as the first guy." Nine months later, People ran the idea without the "still."
