HBO’s medical drama is one of few post-COVID hits of the genre, and that’s actually the reason why the Noah Wyle-led series has yet so much to tell its audiences.

It’s all about chaos and desperation in The Pitt’s season 1, though it’s only because the show had a very specific era to be inspired by.

Launched earlier this year, HBO’s new medical drama is one of the studio’s top projects right now, becoming an immediate hit once a couple of first episodes was released.

Now that the series is in its full production mode for season 2, it’s hard for many fans to imagine something like this wouldn’t be coming to streamings in the modern times, especially since the 2020 pandemic hit way too hard to just ignore it in the TV industry.

This, however, is an entire reason why The Pitt has actually come together at some point.

Noah Wyle Says “There Would’ve Been No Need” for ‘The Pitt’ Without COVID

It’s fair to say the pandemic brought the sanitary crisis that few could even imagine happening, so no wonder stories about frontline medical workers eventually got into some of the biggest projects on modern TV, including HBO’s The Pitt.

“I would never have wanted to do it, and neither would John or Scott. That was the catalyst for all of this — that post-COVID”, Noah Wyle told TheWrap in a recent interview.

He also added that, nearly six years after the pandemic started, the world still needs to hear more about American healthcare system and “the toll that it was taking psychologically, emotionally and financially on the frontline workers”.

“Without COVID, there would’ve been no need for me to put a stethoscope on my neck ever again”, Wyle stated.

‘The Pitt’ Season 2 Will Be “Dynamic and Very Dramatic”

As if there wasn’t enough drama in the show’s first season, things might get even messier in The Pitt’s upcoming season 2 which will take place on July 4.

Apart from the date, nothing is quite clear about what exactly will happen in the hospital’s emergency room this time, yet Wyle has hinted at something just as tragic that will keep the hospital staff at their workplace for longer than they are supposed to.

“It has definite things that will cause our characters to have to be there beyond the 12 hours of their normal shift, to fulfill our 15-episode order. And it is going to be dynamic and very dramatic”, the actor teased, also adding that the second season won’t replicate the first one and “is going to be different”.

The Pitt’s season 2 is now slated for a release sometime in January 2026.
