Necromancer Isekai: How I Went from Abandoned Villager to the Emperor's Favorite anime gets a 2027 release date and new key visual. Staff, voice cast, plot, light novel and manga details.

The title is 17 words long in English and, in the original Japanese, functions as a complete plot summary, a mood board, and a cry for help.

Great news for anyone who has ever been underappreciated at a job, a family dinner, or a small medieval village: the anime adaptation of Necromancer Isekai: How I Went from Abandoned Villager to the Emperor's Favorite finally has a release window. Per Anime Corner, it arrives in 2027, with global streaming planned for the same year and a new key visual to tide everyone over until then. The project was first announced in October 2023, which in anime-announcement years is roughly one eternity.

The title is the pitch

The Japanese title, Mukuware Nakatta Murabito A, Kizoku ni Hirowarete Dekiai Sareru Ue ni, Jitsu wa Motteita Densetsu-kyu no Kami Skill mo Kakusei Shita, translates to something like "Unrewarded Villager A, Picked Up by a Noble and Doted On, Also Awakens the Legendary-Class Divine Skill He Secretly Had All Along." That's not a title. That's the back cover, the first three chapters, and a therapist's intake form.

"Villager A," for the non-gamers, is what you call the NPC who stands near the well and says one line. Our hero starts life as the guy who stands near the well. Then, per the series summary, things escalate:

  • He dies, gets reincarnated into another world, and is taken in by Duke Lawrence, who names him Mateo (or Matteo, depending on who's romanizing).
  • He's then taken in by the duke's grandfather, a marquis, because being adopted by one aristocrat is for amateurs.
  • He touches a dragon egg. It hatches. He names the dragon Eva. Also, he now has more magical power than anyone in the country's recorded history.
  • He revives ancient magic and casually pulls Excalibur out of its sheath, as one does.
  • He meets the emperor, likes him immediately, and has no idea the emperor is sitting on a "massive secret."

This is a genre where the fantasy isn't the dragon. The fantasy is being doted on. The dragon is a bonus.

Who's making it, and who's in it

The staff list, via Anime Corner: Masahiko Konomi is directing, Tsutomu Kaneko handles series composition, Junko Yamanaka is on character design, and Anime News Network notes the newly confirmed addition of Yoshihiro Akase as sound director. Animation is by Lunch Box.

The cast, revealed last year:

  • Maaya Uchida as Matteo (she was Catarina in My Next Life as a Villainess, so she knows her way around an unexpectedly beloved protagonist)
  • Yuki Yomichi as Ishtar
  • Sayako Tojo as Hecate
  • Mei Igarashi as Metis

Yes, the supporting cast is named after a Mesopotamian goddess, a Greek goddess of witchcraft, and the Titaness of wisdom. The village could not handle this man, but the classical pantheon is apparently fine with him.

The receipts

The source material is a light novel by Nazuna Miki, illustrated by Kaito Shibano, which started on the web-novel platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō in May 2020 before Shueisha picked it up. Per Anime Corner, Shueisha's Dash X Bunko imprint has put out eight volumes as of June 2025, and a manga adaptation by Suzume Kumo has been running since December 2022 with three volumes out. Miki also wrote My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1, which tells you the author has a type, and the type is "protagonist who is secretly the best at everything." Respect. Worldwide distribution is being handled by REMOW, with the actual streaming platforms still to be announced.

Release date: 2027. Emotional release date: the moment a village that rejected a man has to watch him ride a dragon past it.
